Diagnosis of vibriosis in the era of genomics: lessons from invertebrates ArchiMer
Le Roux, Frederique.
Global changes linked to increases in temperature and ocean acidification, but also to more direct anthropogenic influences such as aquaculture, have caused a worldwide increase in the reports of Vibrio-associated illnesses affecting humans and also animals such as shrimp and molluscs. Investigation of the emergence of Vibrio pathogenesis events requires the analysis of microbial evolution at the gene, genome and population levels, in order to identify genomic modifications linked to increased virulence, resistance and/or prevalence, or to recent host shift. From a more applied point of view, the elucidation of virulence mechanisms is a prerequisite to devising prophylactic methods to fight infectious agents. In comparison with human pathogens, fairly...

Etude des facteurs de transcription impliqués dans l’accumulation lipidique en condition de stress azoté chez la microalgue haptophyte Isochrysis affinis galbana ArchiMer
Thiriet-rupert, Stanislas.
In every organism, evolution and acclimation to environmental changes are orchestrated by numerous molecular players. Among them, transcription factors (TFs) play a crucial role by regulating gene expression. Therefore, identify TFs involved in the production of high value products is a significant step in a biotechnological context. The laboratory has at its disposal a mutant strain of the haptophyte microalga Tisochrysis lutea producing twice more storage lipids than the wild type strain when exposed to nitrogen deprivation. Given the key role of TFs in phenotype establishment, this PhD aim at identify the TFs involved in that of the mutant phenotype of T. lutea. A TFs identification and classification pipeline was elaborated and applied to T. lutea’s...

Les surcotes et les décotes marines à Brest, étude statistique et évolution ArchiMer
Bouligand, R; Pirazzoli, Pa.
Sea surges (positive or negative) are short-period events (several hours to several days) among the most extreme oceanic phenomena resulting from climatic variability. A statistical study of hourly tide-gauge records at Brest does not allow any clear trend in long-term variations of these extreme sea levels to be detected. However, the frequency of extreme positive sea surges has increased recently (1953-1994), whereas extreme and sub-extreme negative sea surges has decreased. Such trends for the highest values strengthen the prevalence of positive sea surges over negative ones. The general evolution appears to be organised around several time scales, with a strong interannual variability superimposed on periods of amplification or regression of decennial...
